MINDtalk - Presentation Skills

The Presentation Skills Workshop

The ability to present an idea, a suggestion, a product or a service to one person or a group of people is a skill that most business people need to use rather frequently. Knowing this fact, it is then surprising to think that not more people are better at presentations.

The idea of any presentation is to communicate key-points of a message so it is understood, remembered and easily recalled. To achieve this, it is important to realize how the brain receives and interprets information and to build a presentation based on this functioning. The Presentation Skills workshop directly addresses these challenges by focusing on three key-areas; the preparation, the design, and the delivery.

In the first part, the preparation, participants will learn the rules of the brain and how to build a comprehendible message that engages these rules. They will learn to build a presentation based on the top-down approach that increases oversight, understanding and retention of key-information.

In the second part, which focuses on design, participants will learn the science of holding the audience’s attention while engaging their interest. This part addresses the proper and most effective use of such tools as Powerpoint or Keynote. Participants are introduced to a series of powerpoint slides, from a key-candidate in the 2008/2009 U.S. Presidential Campaign, to illustrate the what-to-do’s and the what-not-to-do’s when using tools like Microsoft’s Powerpoint.

The third part focuses on delivery.

Participant’s will learn to be aware of their

physical presence and how best to utilize it

during a presentation. This section

also draws awareness to other key aspects

of delivery, such as presentation logistics,

the ‘B’ key, Q&A etc.
